There was an article today in Yahoo about how Colin Kaepernick is now being regarded by some as having less future potential than a guy like Derek Carr. A few years ago Jaworski said that he may be the best of all-time. I guess everybody was “Drinking the Kool Aid” as the flavor of the month was guys that could both run and pass. Defenses have now caught up to these types of guys and they are performing very poorly. A guy like Kaepernick isn’t a pocket passer, has a funky delivery and will never be a pocket passer.
Cam Newtown has fallen back as well as he doesn’t have the intelligence to read defenses and if you stop his running, he is quite ordinary in the pocket. A guy like Robert Griffin III is not even playing anymore and the Redskins “mortgaged the farm” to get him. The only one of this type of quarterbacks that has done well is Russell Wilson, but he doesn’t beat you with his legs or his arm, he wins with his head. He acts like he is going to run then when the linebacker leaves his man to chase him down; he dumps it off to a wide open tight end that runs for 20-30 yards.
True Running quarterbacks will never make it in the NFL. Fran Tarkenton, Doug Flutie and even Archie Manning knew that they wanted to throw the ball first, then only ran when it was necessary. Steve Young was the same way. We feel that Johnny Manziel has this philosophy and talent and will be great be in a few years. Guys that think run first don’t belong in the NFL and if lack of talent doesn’t doom them, then getting hit over and over will. Donovan McNabb knew this and was never the same being once he stopped running, but knew that to prolong his career he had better stay in the pocket.
So to all of you GM’s who are looking for a future franchise QB, try to draft a pure pocket passer like Andrew Luck and you might have a good offense for years to come. When the next Geno Smith or E.J. Manuel is available, look the other way as it won’t pan out and it has been shown over and over again. P.S. I wonder if San Fran would like to have Alex Smith back now instead of Kaepernick?
This week are calling up America’s Bookie and betting on a pure pocket passer in Derek Carr +8 and his Raiders to cover and possibly beat Colin and his Niners. See you next week.
