US Open time has rolled around as the first round is set to start today.  The Big Apple is adorned with images of Serena on posters all over the city.  For one of the legends of the game, this is her shot at immortality.  Today on Americas Bookie’s The Brink, we look at some oldies but goodies in tennis and drinks to enjoy while viewing this march towards history.  Read on to see what pitfalls an over -200 pre tournament future has in this final leg of the Grand Slam.

Plunk it In

What did the elite do when champagne became too mundane in the 40’s?  Why they cut up a peach, poured the bubbly over it, and let the fizzing do the work.  Very chic with the upper crust ladies back in the day.  It contained the color, tingle, and taste that those with bank craved.  This took over the top stop from the Aristocrat’s punch which was an overly complex drink with burgundy, brandy, champagne, and fruit.  Think of a white bread sangria and you get the picture.  For the US Open, we recommend trying the peach in the champagne while toasting Serena at the end of the tourney.

Crowning Her Already?

On the surface, losing the #3 player in the world would seem to make Serena’s life easier but it is Maria.  The whipping girl of Ms. Williams could rarely even get within earshot of her on the court.  As for the threats in the draw, people are pointing to the power game of Kvitova in the final as the toughest match.  This wont be because outside of the lawns of the All England, Petra can not keep it together.  For our money, any time to possibly rally against history would be two players.  Look out for Belinda Bencic or Azarenka to have the best of the remote shots to stop history from happening.

Want drama and an uncertain result then go to the men’s side of the draw! The fatigue that might have got her from a rough French Open is long gone.  Wimbledon and the US Open surfaces play to her power game much better.  The only force of nature that can derail her is the weather.  High temps and humidity can crush any player even Serena.  So look out for the weather report and be prepared to go the over on the games if Serena faces Bencic or Azarenka.  Other than that it is profit per usual for the WTA.
