Before we get to the Saturday bonanza of college football, Americas Bookie’s The Brink has to wrap up business for Friday evening.  Staying up late for a Mountain Time Zone game, we saw Utah State somehow hang in the game against Utah.  The end was an Aggies +12 cover as they lost to Utah 24-14.  Many Ute backers were lamenting of the bad beat nature of their loss.  So how do you rebound the next day after your team dominated almost everything but the final score? We will tackle this as well as our opinion on how the dominoes are falling just right for Michigan State this evening at home against Oregon.

Injuries and Rivalry

In the face of a rivalry game, asking the Utes to cover double digits was a tall order.  Yet many were convinced that the missing piece of the team would come up big.  Quarterback play was agreed to be on of the greatest limitations for Utah.  Imagine the chagrin of the railers as Utah was marching the ball all over the place but not putting up big points.  Meanwhile, Utah State eeked out every first half edge they had to end the half tied at 14 apiece.  Oh yes, during the game your Utes quarterback would get injured being tackled out of bounds.  Second half led by the backup, the professional nature of Utah showed up and they posted a yeoman ten point win making Utah State backers very happy.  Play this game without the injury and the Utes could and would pour it on.  One fluke play and the right side did not cover.  So how does one handle late night heartbreak?

  • Do not place any wagers until you get a good night’s sleep.  Not thinking clearly, let your body adjust to the situation and even out the emotions you might be running on.
  • In the morning, go to the biggest game you would watch as a fan, break it down, and invest in it.  Get a perspective from a well known matchup instead of unearthing gold with the mid majors.

So this is where we are at and the largest game on the slate is Oregon at Michigan State.  If ever Michigan State is going to win in this series, today is it.  Home and with the weather in the 50’s, heat will not wear down the Spartan defense like it was last year.  A new qb for the Ducks while the Spartans are returning most of their key players.  now the spread is -4 for MSU but look at the total which is 67.  State does not win in a shootout so if they are going to win then this total is sky high.  Your Free Pick of the Day is the Oregon – Michigan State under 67.  Good fortune to you and we will speak again on Sunday here at the Brink.
