Alas this is a week where the last ditch effort to recoup the day’s losses are not on the board.  The Rainbows of Hawaii are not home but travel all the way up to Boise.  Bronco fans were extremely happy with the demolition their team inflicted against Virginia.  Now can their freshman sensation, Bryan Harsin, follow up on such a successful first start.  We go over this and remiss about pineapple moonshine in your Wednesday edition of Americas Bookie’s The Brink.

Swipe

What the original word is in Hawaiian who knows but roughly translated it arrives at the word swipe.  This is what the natives of the island call fermented pineapple moonshine.  Packing a punch and still having that citrus and sugary sweetness, it is the one local item that I crave on the infrequent times I get to go there.  Instead, I will have to settle for adding some pineapple juice to the drink I am pounding while watching this late Saturday evening affair.

Beyond Expectations

So where does a + 24 1/2 leave us on Hawaii?  First off, the Broncos hit a once in a year peak of productivity at Virginia.  The coaching staff did not dumb down the playbook and let it rip.  Harsin responded with over three hundred yards, three touchdowns, and no turnovers.  Areas of exploitation for Hawaii lay in his snap count errors.  With film on him, the defensive line can and will time him well.  Also he had only 3 for 14 in third down situations.  Control the jailbreaks and make this team grind it up the field.  This will be the bend but dont break scenario seen on Saturday evening.

Both times state side this year have seen the Rainbows get shut out by big ten powers Ohio State and Wisconsin.  Senior QB Matt Wittekk has more turnovers than touchdowns for an offense that ranks in the lower half of the nation.  With the balance on the Boise St. side, we can see how they can be slowed down but not stopped.  As much as the fondness of pineapple moonshine makes us think fondly of Hawaii, their program will suffer on the track like field in Idaho.  Take the -24 1/2 on the Broncos as the Rainbows are not in their class.  Good fortune and we will see you tomorrow here at The Brink.
