Heading into the second week of May, the new 2022 MLB regular season is officially one month old. The majority of the 30 teams in the American and National League have close to 30 games of an extended 162-game schedule in the books.

At 19-7 through 26 games played, the NL West’s Los Angeles Dodgers have the best winning percentage in the Majors at .731. Moving to the AL standings, the East’s New York Yankees are second on the list at 19-8 through 27 games.

Moving to the early results on the MLB money line, the Dodgers are +$299 and the Yankees are +$315.

The most profitable betting team in the league based on its money line return is the NL East’s New York Mets at +$571. They are 20-10 through their first 30 games and they have already opened up a full six game lead over the Atlanta Braves and Miami Marlins in the division standings.

The New York Mets have made most of their money (+$424) on the road behind an impressive 11-5 mark through 16 previous road games.

Another team with a solid return on the MLB money line is AL West’s Los Angeles Angels at +$458. They have a thin half-game lead over the Houston Astros at 19-11 through their first 30 games. This is another solid betting team on the road at 9-5. The money line return for those 14 road games is +$402.

The Cincinnati Reds have moved into a category of their own.

At 5-23 through 28 games, the Reds are already 13.5 games behind the Milwaukee Brewers (19-10) in the NL Central standings. Cincinnati is -$1679 as far as its return on a money line bet this season.

Almost as surprising is the poor play of the Chicago Cubs at 9-18 through 27 games. They are nine games in back of the Brewers with a costly -$604 money line return.

Another major disappointment out of the gate have been the Boston Red Sox at 10-19. They are a full 10 games in back of the Yankees in the AL East and -$557 on their money line return.

The season is still early enough for any team to turn things around. However, there is quite a bit of betting insight to be taken away from the first month of play.

When it comes to overall MLB betting stats trends, road favorites have been the best bet on the money line with a 61.4 winning percentage. Favorites in general have won 60.9% of the games played. The home team has won 52.5% of the time.

Scoring has been at a premium through the opening month of play. The total has stayed UNDER the closing line in 55.3% of the games played. Games decided in extra innings have gone OVER 57.1% of the time.

Betting any MLB game still comes down to analyzing the matchup at hand. The best pitching staff in the Majors according to its team ERA belongs to the Dodgers at 2.07. Second on the list is the Yankees at 2.60. These early MLB betting trends simply emphasize the importance of pitching as far as winning the majority of your games.
