Earth shattering were some of the aftershocks that rippled through college football.  Some of the titans fell while others proved to be remarkably mortal.  How did the SEC landscape get thrown asunder once more?  Find out for our money who should be on top of the polls and it is not Ohio State.  All of this and more on your Sunday edition of Americas Bookie’s The Brink.

On the Ropes

Ohio State’s season is remarkably close to the Florida State defense of their title last year.  Even though the Seminoles had to come from way back many times, they ended the season undefeated.  Ohio State has had the lead in their games but have had to hang on to dear life against Northern Illinois and now Indiana.  This was a back and forth affair that saw Indiana get worn down.  Big runs by Elliot saved the day but the Buckeyes are very vulnerable.  A team of near equal strength could take them down before they play Michigan State in November.

Pretenders

Ole Miss got waylaid at Florida and looked little like the offensive juggernaut that dismantled Alabama.  Speaking of the Crimson Tide, they came to Georgia and crushed them 38 to 10.  Notre Dame almost climbed out of the hole by Clemson finally shut the door on their undefeated season.  To close out the carnage, UCLA got clever and took a safety for field position.  Did not work as Arizona State immediately scored and brushed the Bruins aside.  Even the mighty Spartans got out to a twenty one point lead and slept walked to a 24 -21 win.  So now, how much should recent form go into our calculations?

Do we discount Michigan State while elevating TCU for crushing a clearly a culled Texas team?  The SEC should get no special consideration this year.  For our money, we would favor Baylor, Utah, and Michigan State over all others.  The Bears look streamlined enough so that no defense could stop them and would only lose in a shoot out.  Utah is the class of the PAC-12.  Finally, Michigan State suffered one of those letdowns after building a big lead against a snoozer of an opponent.  Keep this in mind for Monday when we examine the early lines and the vulnerabilities that are there if you look hard enough.  Good fortune in your NFL wagering today at America’s Bookie.
