This week’s US Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links in California marks the third Major in professional golf this season. Tiger Woods turned back the clock to win this year’s Masters at Augusta National in early April and Brooks Koepka won his second-straight PGA Championship with his victory at Bethpage Black in the month of May.
The US Open is often considered the toughest test in golf given the USGA’s reputation for setting up the course to play to par over the four rounds. Pebble Beach is a rather familiar course to many of the game’s top golfers considering how many professional tournaments have been played at this fabled venue on the Pacific Ocean. This should set the stage for a highly competitive four days of golf in a tournament that will probably come down to the final nine holes on Sunday afternoon.

Along with his back-to-back victories in the PGA Championship, Koepka has won the last two US Opens. He is just one of four golfers in the history of this tournament to accomplish that feat. He was also tied with Johnson for second in this year’s Masters. If you were going to bet on one pairing to win this week against the field it would be on these two proven US Open champions.

Prior to winning this year’s Masters, Woods last win in a Major was the 2008 US Open. Over the course of his storied career, he has won a grand total of 15 Majors. Of his three previous victories in this week’s tournament, his most dominant US Open win was at Pebble Beach in 2000.

Going back to Woods’ victory in 2008, a US player has won this event in seven of the last 11 years, including the last four US Opens.
