Frankie got an email from a friend who is a Patriot’s Fan, who was complaining about them trading Logan Mankins, who refused to take pay cut. I wrote him back explaining how this was the right thing to do. This started with teams like the San Francisco 49ers back in the day after free agency started. They used to cut guys a year too soon instead of a year too early. They let Roger Craig walk when he was still a good back but on the tail end of his career. Good teams that want to stay on top always look towards the future, not backwards. The Giants made this mistake in the past. The offensive line all of sudden got old at the same time and the Giants are just now recovering, as they attempt to replace all 5 players from the line that played together for so many years.

Teams only have so much money to work with. Fans think that teams should sign every available free agent on the market. This is more foolish than ever, with the new collective bargaining agreement, the owners have set it up so that rookies make very little their first few years. They don’t want to have anymore JaMarcus Russell situations in which rookies hold out, get paid way too much and then “drink cough syrup” the rest of their careers. Teams like the Packers, Steelers, 49ers, Patriots, and Giants have always known that and have built through the draft. Teams like the Cowboys, Redskins, Eagles, Jets and Dolphins go for the “Quick Fix” of building by paying too much for overpriced bums such as Albert Haynesworth and then we have the same problem as Russell. Guys who are set for life are not hungry and don’t produce. That is why letting Makings go and replacing him with a younger guy was the correct move for the Pats, even if they take a step back this year because in the long run it will benefit the team.

Frankie is calling up America’s Bookie today and putting few bucks on his team the Giants +3.5 to beat the Redskins.

The new line that was terrible last year is starting to play better and if they can block for Eli then the Giants and their new offense will win this game. Enjoy the football. See you next week.
